INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND AND BALL DIAMOND COMING TO PRAIRIE FIELDS
—This is the
concept drawing—
The Belvidere Lions Club is
excited to announce in celebration of our 75th Anniversary next year, the
Belvidere Park District and Rockford Noon Lions Club have agreed to partner with
us to build an accessible, ADA-compliant, all-inclusive playground and ball
diamond complex specifically designed to remove physical and social barriers.
The playground complex will not only benefit Belvidere, but the greater
community.
There are an estimated
2,500 students within the Boone County school districts that have a disability
and we are excited to give them a place where they can improve their physical,
cognitive and social skills side-by-side with their non-disabled playmates in an
inclusive environment.
More exciting features
will be added in the final plan. The playground will feature poured rubber
floor, friendship swings, sensory items and several new features.
PLAY BALL! The ball
diamond will be fully accessible. The field is made of poured rubber allowing
for easy use in a wheelchair. So, whether it is baseball, softball or beep ball,
everybody can play.
In these current times
when having fundraisers is difficult, we are starting out by selling bricks to
erect a donor wall at the entrance of the complex. Bricks go on sale October 1,
2020.
