The Del Webb
Nocatee Association of Veterans and Supporters, a DWN chartered club (“The
Veterans Club”), has had for more than two years a goal of constructing a
Veterans Memorial within the DWN community. The vision has been to build a
memorial that will commemorate and properly recognize veterans – past, present
and future - for their contributions to the protection of our nation and it’s
citizens, as well as their contribution to the promotion of freedom throughout
the world. It is intended to be a dignified place where our community can hold
respectful ceremonies and where individuals may come and reflect.
That Vision began to
materialize on Veterans Day, Friday November 11th 2022, with the dedication of
the new Veterans Park located at the end of Clear Springs Drive. A bronze plaque
announcing the park on the entrance post, and a flagpole which will fly the
American flag were installed just two days before the dedication, marking the
first steps in the ongoing project.
The park will have a
walkway leading from what is currently the mailbox area to an elliptical brick
pad around the flagpole. A permanent memorial honoring veterans may be a large
rock with a bronze plaque or perhaps an engraved granite stone. Personalized
engraved bricks to honor veterans and relatives of community members who are or
were veterans will be sold as part of the ongoing fund raising campaign. Fund
raising efforts will also include soliciting donations from DWN vendors and
contractors and applying for grants. Park design details will be refined as
finances allow. The ninety six current members of the Veterans Club will
continue to run the program.
The park and memorial
are funded entirely by charitable contributions.
