Hawfields Presbyterian Church is the oldest church in Mebane and one of the oldest in North Carolina - dating back to the 1700s. The Hawfields Cemetery dates to 1783 and there are nearly 200 US military veterans buried there. To date there is no permanent monument honoring these veterans. I am honored as an Eagle Scout Candidate for Boy Scout Troop 52, sponsored by Hawfields Presbyterian Church, to have as my Eagle Project the creation of a Memorial Garden to include the erection of a flagpole to honor these brave men and women who served our country dating back to the Revolutionary War.
As part of the Memorial Area, we will have a brick walkway and area surrounding the flagpole. This walkway will give you the opportunity to recognize or commemorate a loved one buried here, a veteran from your family, or any other honor or remembrance for a friend or family member you would like. It is a great opportunity for families to be remembered, or local Veteran's Groups or business to be recognized.
As I must raise the funds needed to complete the project, this brick walkway also acts as a major fundraiser for the project - the cost of which is approximately $2,000. Any funds raised over this amount will go to add plants and flowers to the area, and beyond that to the cemetery maintenance fund.
***ALL MILITARY SYMBOLS WILL ONLY FIT ON 8X8 BRICKS***
