MODALE, IOWA HONOR ROLL HISTORY
A Veterans Memorial Honor Roll was built on a corner lot of main street in
Modale, Iowa. This Honor Roll was five (5) sections of wood with a gated walkway
in the center. This Honor Roll was dedicated to the men who had served in World
War I and World War II. The Honor Roll was constructed as a living memorial to
the men who served our country or gave their lives in our nation's wars. Many
years later in the early 1960's, the city of Modale was forced to take the
structure down due to deterioration of the wood. Veterans, citizens and the city
of Modale have discussed the idea of recreating this Honor Roll or a memorial of
some kind to honor our soldiers for a decades. In 2022, a group of veterans
formed a committee and began discussing the importance of building this
memorial. The city of Modale generously donated a vacant lot on main street to
start the process and construct this memorial. One of the phases of this project
is to construct a walkway of bricks honoring our soldiers.
