AMERICAN REVOLUTION PATRIOTS MEMORIAL
The Sons of the
American Revolution (SAR) and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) wish to
honor the Patriots who lived within the original 1793 Hardin County, Kentucky
boundaries and who served in the American Revolution. A memorial will be placed
in Freeman Lake Park in Elizabethtown and will also provide a community forum
for educational events to explain Revolutionary History and to promote
patriotism.
The memorial consists
of a 6-foot high obelisk that accommodates up to 155 patriot names and sits on a
granite base. Only the names of those patriots from the original Hardin County
boundaries may be engraved on the monument. As of this date, one-hundred forty-
three (143) names, identified in Mary Jo Jones book, “Revolutionary War Veterans
in Hardin County, Kentucky”, may meet this criterion but must be verified by DAR
genealogists who will use current DAR guidelines. Twelve additional names may be
considered if verified by March 31, 2020. The SAR and DAR emblems will be
engraved on opposite sides of the obelisk. The obelisk will be surrounded by a
rectangular bed of 250 red bricks that may be purchased for $125 each and
engraved with the name of patriots not certified to be on the obelisk. Other
patriots, from any of the original 13 colonies with no connection to Hardin
County, may be honored with a purchased brick in the brick bed surrounding the
obelisk.
The SAR and DAR
invite the community to participate. As a thank you for monetary contributions
of $500.00 or more, we will inscribe your name or company name on a plaque to be
placed at the Memorial site for substantial donors. Both the Daughters of the
American Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution are exempt
organizations as described in Section 501 (C) (3) of the Internal Revenue Tax
Code. No goods or services are being provided in exchange for your contribution.
Therefore, your gift is considered a charitable contribution for income tax
reporting purposes. All contributions, including the purchase of a brick, are
tax deductible. A written acknowledgment of the contribution will be provided to
use as a receipt for tax purposes.
If paying by check,
please make check payable to American Revolution Patriots Memorial.
