Mission
The Pontiac Kappa Foundation (PKF), started in 1998, is an affiliate of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Pontiac Alumni Chapter, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit education foundation that was organized to encourage and promote higher education through financial assistance to inner city students in the community, to encourage educational excellence and to assist other community organizations. The Mission of PKF is to provide economically disadvantaged youth with educational alternatives.
This is accomplished by funding
scholarships to inner city students in the community. Also, we provide
educational and health knowledge to the less fortunate in the community. Our
scholarships are based on need without regard to race, religion or national
origin. However, new high school graduates will be given priority. Our grants
will only cover a portion of their tuition costs, but they are often the
determining factor as to whether a child is able to attend his or her University
or College of choice or approved programs of study.
Foundation Philosophy/Objective
The objective of the Pontiac Kappa
Foundation is to assist and sponsor programs that will address the physical and
academic needs of disadvantaged inner city youth and families in the community.
Additionally we will make grants that further these purposes. PKF seeks to aid
distressed communities with services, information, and resources that will
strengthen individual families.
Premier
Programs
The PKF provides “Scholarship
Awards” annually to the
Pontiac graduating seniors from the Pontiac communities. The PKF has awarded
over $30,000 in scholarships over the past several years and funded ACT
preparation workshops for students.
Our “Bowling for
Kids Bowl-A-Thon” is held
annually to raise funds for scholarships. This event offered the inner city kids
a chance to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon of bowling, food, and fun at the
Classic Lanes in Rochester Hills, MI.
Our "Sticks for
Kids” program promotes
exercise, sports training and fitness, provides equipment for economically
challenged children and provides awareness, coaching and mentoring to inner city
kids for playing the sports of Golf, Lacrosse, and Baseball.
