U.S. Naval
Sea Cadet Corps - Building Leaders!
The Navy League of the
United States, Fort Lauderdale Council supports the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps,
a life-changing, out-of-school youth development program. Each year
approximately 100 boys and girls, ages 10-18, representing the diversity of
Broward County, participate in the Sea Cadet Youth Leadership Program, at a time
in life when building self-confidence is crucial. Cadets commit to a one-year
program, meeting every Saturday during the school year, and participating in
nationwide training opportunities during summer and winter breaks.
Why a Brick
Fundraiser?
The Sea Cadet Training
Center is currently housed in a 2,500 sq. ft. building that is over sixty years
old requiring constant repairs. The building is undersized and does not comply
with current building code. The structure is inadequate for the future growth of
our program.
Our plan is to totally
renovate and expand the building to create a state-of-the-art facility for the
Sea Cadet Program here in Fort Lauderdale. The new structure will be
approximately 4,700 sq. ft. and built to meet current building code regulations.
It will accommodate the needs and growing enrollment of our boys and girls for
many decades. It will feature large multi-use classrooms, meeting and
administrative space and ample parking. The building will incorporate
sustainable design elements to reduce operating and maintenance costs and meet
ADA requirements.
The Navy League of the
United States, Fort Lauderdale Council has provided funding for the local Sea
Cadet Program for over 24 years and now needs your support to make this
important project a reality. We will begin construction of the Sea Cadet
Training Facility in December 2020. Your tax-deductible donation of an engraved
brick for the building’s entrance walkway will help guarantee that this training
center will continue to be a vital resource for young people in our community.
