Payson dentist, Gordon Taylor,
promised his wife, Karen, that he would purchase and
resurrect the Huish Theater.
Karen had a vision of making the Huish the
epicenter of performance art at the south end of Utah
County and the tiny neighboring communities. She grew up
adoring music, the piano, and painting. But in 1981,
Karen was stricken with a mysterious illness that put
her in a week-long coma and forever robbed her of her
motor skills. No more painting, and no more playing.
Gordon was sure she saw in the Huish a chance to fill
that void, albeit vicariously.

Both Dr. Taylor and his wife have
passed away, but the vision to see the Huish open its
doors again lives on. The Payson Community Theater now
owns the building. When money ran short, work on the
theater stopped. The time has come to finish the theater
and give the community a venue for performing arts. The
stage is nearly finished, the balcony is made and ready
to put into place, and the seats are already in the
building. The Huish Side Show only needs to bring the
bathrooms up to code to be able to start having
performances, allowing revenue to start coming in to
finish the theater.
Buying a brick will put
your name in the building’s entryway, stating YOU helped
to restore the Huish Theater! Be a part of something
BIG!
