I am Makenzie Hagerman, a senior at Yosemite High School in
Oakhurst with a 3.5 grade point average. I believe strongly in
my community and contribute my time to two very important
organizations, Sierra Estates Assisted Living
where I am a senior companion aide and Yosemite High School
where I assist the special education students.
With community service in mind, I choose a very challenging
Senior Project and one that is very near and dear to my heart.
I am committed to bringing the first Christmas Box Angel
to Oakhurst and to the entire San Joaquin Valley. She is a
beautiful 4 foot 3 inch Bronze statue with a wing span of more
than 5 feet her outstretched arms beckon you, on her right wing
the word “HOPE” is inscribed amid her etched feathers.
The Angel stands in recognition of all of the children
who have passed before their parents. I am one of those people,
when I was just 8 years old; I lost my 2 year old sister
Madison Noel from an accidental drowning. It devastated our
entire family. We needed a way to heal and a place to direct our
grief, that place would become the Christmas Box Angel,
on Marco Island, Florida where my little sister passed away.
I want to bring this incredible gift of healing to the mountains
and the entire valley, but I cannot do it alone. It will cost
$20,000 dollars to have our Angel cast in bronze and to
provide the base that she will stand upon. The Angel
will belong to all of the lost children of generations past and
future. The Oakhurst Cemetery and Madera County have generously
donated her permanent home.
