The Cherry Trees of the
Blackstone initiative
is an important process in the transformation of a historic mill
corridor into an energetic, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.
This multi-year, public/private plan will install approximately
120 cherry trees in the project area by 2010. The flowering
trees will improve air quality, provide a vibrant,
pedestrian-oriented streetscape, and represent a new spirit of
life on Roosevelt Avenue. Further, the trees will create an icon
that will represent a resilient place with positive values.
The Pawtucket Foundation and the Blackstone Valley Tourism
Council are excited to announce the Cherry Trees of the
Blackstone Brick Campaign. 100% of the proceeds from brick sales
will go to The Pawtucket Foundation Landscape Improvement Fund,
and will be used for installation and future maintenance of the
flowering trees.
Become a visible part of these communities by memorializing
someone special, honoring a friend or family member, or just
leaving your name as someone who cares about beautifying these
communities. These bricks will be seen by residents and visitors
for years to come.
